The Luxford Centre is a self-funding charity for the over 55’s residing in Uckfield and surrounding area and is run solely by our volunteers. We currently have over 200 members and have facilities to meet, play and have daily activities.
The Centre building (originally the Town Library) was purchased in 1995 from East Sussex County Council to serve the older people in the community. It opened in 1996 and has been successfully operated over the last 29 years.
Our main income is from hiring-out the Centre to local community groups and clubs offering activities and services for all ages and backgrounds. Hiring happens mostly in the evenings and weekends when the club is not in use – about 350 people use our facilities every week and we would like to attract more.
Currently the Luxford Centre is running a funding mission as we want to extend our building to enable more people to visit and access the activities at the centre. We are currently raising financial support for this. The estimated cost is £65,000 of which we have £25,000 collected already. Planning permission has already been granted.
