Uckfield Town Council is pleased to announce that, as part of an upgrade of Uckfield’s CCTV system, six new cameras have been installed at locations across Uckfield Town Centre.

The Chamber have been pleased to pay for a new sixth camera covering the west entrance to Bellbrook Industrial Estate with Uckfield Town Council funding the remaining five cameras.

The installation is part of Sussex CCTV partnership’s iwitness programme led by Sussex Police which aims to work with local authorities to provide public safety and reassurance, crime detection and crime reduction.

The cameras are high definition and have wireless connection providing high-quality, clear imagery. The footage captured will link directly to the CCTV control room in Sussex Police Headquarters.

The benefits of the system include its close links to Sussex Police and the ability to upgrade the system in line with any partnership developments and changes in technology.

The Mayor, Councillor Spike Mayhew said: “The Town Council is really pleased with the result of this CCTV upgrade. Residents and businesses alike should feel reassured that this will enhance their safety in the town. It has also been good to work in conjunction with Uckfield Chamber of Commerce and Sussex Police to make this happen.”

Our President of the Chamber, Chris Lawson, said “I am very pleased that the Chamber has been able to work in partnership with Uckfield Town Council and Sussex Police to provide one extra camera to protect the industrial estate. Having seen a demonstration of the system, the clarity of the images is most impressive and a big improvement on the previous system.”

Sussex Police Assistant Chief Constable Steve Barry said: “This system, which provides live footage in high definition, enables us to monitor situations from the click of a button. It has been proven in previous years that police resources were spared in hundreds of cases where live CCTV footage has showed that an incident has been resolved, and therefore no police action was required.

“This modern technology is invaluable, as it frees up our officers to attend incidents where the threat, risk or harm is the greatest, ensuring we have a better opportunity to catch criminals, and keep the public safe and feeling safe.”

So, both individuals and businesses in Uckfield Town Centre have never been in safer hands…
