This month, our Chamber members went to the cinema. But it wasn’t to watch the latest blockbuster and munch on a bucket of popcorn. It was to hear about the latest news and events happening in and around Uckfield at our bi-monthly members’ meeting.
Around 60 people gathered in Screen 2 of the Uckfield Picture House cinema as President Chris Dowling gave his report on what’s been happening since the last update.
We also heard from cinema owner Kevin Markwick, about the history of the Picture House cinema and restaurant and how it has become one of Uckfield’s stand-out independent businesses.
Christmas is coming
Chamber Director Ian Noble then gave attendees an update on late-night shopping, which is taking place on Friday 5 December, as well as some of the other exciting upcoming events.
He then invited some of the new Chamber members to introduce themselves and their business.
We also heard about the 2026 Uckfield Business Awards, which will be taking place on Thursday 1 October 2026. The Chamber is currently looking for sponsors, so if you’re interested in your business sponsoring an award, get in touch.
Police Sergeant Fareed Camar from Sussex Police then gave a presentation on how local businesses can keep their premises safe and talked about the recent protests in Crowborough regarding the proposed plans for the training camp.
Following the formalities, we headed across the road to Uckfield Picture House Restaurant to continue networking and enjoy a delicious supper of burger and chips.
