Understanding the skills challenges facing local businesses is at the heart of what the ESCC Employability & Skills team do. They write….

Our employment and skills team deliver a wide range of programmes that support both adults and young people to develop their skills. We work closely with local businesses to understand the specific needs of our East Sussex employers, so we can help our residents into meaningful employment, and connect local employers with the right workforce support, all at no cost.

We currently offer six services, designed for employers to get involved in, or for businesses to directly benefit from.

The following services give employers the chance to contribute their time while gaining real benefits, including access to future talent, free training opportunities for staff and the chance to contribute to solutions to local skills shortages.

Careers Hub and Work Experience

Employers can engage with young people by visiting schools, offering workplace encounters or providing work experience. This is a great way to inspire future talent, raise your business profile and build an early pipeline of skilled employees.

Priority Sector Task Groups

Employers can join quarterly task group meetings with others in their sector to network, share insights and help address skills gaps and workforce challenges across East Sussex. These groups play a key role in shaping local skills solutions.

The final three services are fully funded, practical support offers designed to help businesses upskill staff, recruit talent and access expert advice:

Upskilling and Training Support, Skills Advice and Funding Guidance

We can help employers identify opportunities to upskill their current workforce, supporting progression, retention and productivity via our Skills Bootcamps or Transform service. Our teams can provide advice on skills gaps and help employers access relevant funding, skills training or apprenticeships, and hand hold them through the process via our Skills Bootcamps or Transform service.

Recruitment and Talent Support

Whether you’re looking to fill current vacancies or plan for future growth, our services can help connect you with suitable candidates and emerging talent via our Skills Bootcamps and Connect to Work employment programmes.

If your business can benefit from any of these free employment and skills services, email employersupport@eastsussex.gov.uk and we’ll be happy to discuss your needs in more detail or introduce you to the right team.
