Any new member of the Chamber is invited to write a blog for our website, as a great way to introduce yourself to the local community. It’s a fantastic member benefit.
It gives you the opportunity to talk about what you do and how you can help the people of Uckfield – in far more detail than you can in the 60 seconds you get at our breakfast meetings.
If you’re unsure where to start or what to include in your blog, here are some tops tips to help you write your new member blog…
1. How long should my blog be?
Blogs are best read within a couple of minutes, so it’s a good idea to keep your word count between 300-400 words.
2. What should I include in my blog?
Imagine you’re introducing yourself to another member of the Uckfield Chamber – use what you would say in conversation to form the basis of your blog.
- Business name
- Where you’re based
- What you do
- Who you do it for (your target audience)
- How you help people (the problem you solve for customers)
- Why people should use your services
- Why you joined the Uckfield Chamber
- A call to action (e.g. Visit our website for more info)
Keep it light and conversational. It’s not a sales pitch, so save the hard sell for another time. It’s a fun and informative way to introduce your business and make people aware of what you do.
3. Make it easy to digest
Having long paragraphs of text can put people off reading a blog, so try and keep sentences and paragraphs short.
Bullet points and sub-headings are a great way to break up text and make it easier to read.
4. Include an image
We require a single landscape image to be able to publish your blog, so please send this when you submit your blog. Don’t forget to include a credit to the photographer if required.
We recommend sending a Jpeg of 1600 x 1200 pixels. Any image taken on a smartphone should be sufficient quality. Just make sure it’s landscape (4×3).
5. Submit it
Once you’ve written your blog, send it as a Word document along with your landscape image to secretary@uckfieldchamber.co.uk and it will be uploaded to the website. We’ll usually send you a link to the published blog once it’s live, so you can see how it looks.
6. Promote it
Once your blog is live, why not shout about the fact you’ve joined the Uckfield Chamber of Commerce by posting on social media and including a link to your blog, so even more people can read about what you do.
We strongly recommend you take advantage of this great member benefit by submitting a new member blog for our website.
