On a gloriously warm evening, around 50 guests gathered at the stunning Bluebell Vineyard in Furners Green for the Uckfield Chamber of Commerce members meeting.
Before the formalities began, many of the guests enjoyed their complementary glass of Bluebell sparkling wine (made by the vineyard) out on the deck by the pond, while watching the ducklings and networking with other local businesses.
Chamber updates
To open the formal meeting, President Chris Dowling gave an update of what’s been happening in the Chamber over the past month.
We also heard from one of the tour hosts at Bluebell Vineyard, who gave an overview of what they do and the wine they produce, including the fact they’re the only vineyard in the UK growing merlot and making wine from it.
Director Ian Noble then introduced the new Chamber members and invited those who were there to introduce themselves and their business. We heard from new dentists ScandiSmile and Julie Jeffery from Utility Warehouse.
Next was a presentation from Dexter Allen from East Sussex Fire and Rescue. He spoke about fire compliance and the responsibility of business owners in the event of a fire.
Coming up
Ian then mentioned some of the upcoming chamber events, including a new Ask the Expert event on 8 July. He also touched on the Uckfield Business Awards and encouraged people to get their entries in before they close on 29 May.
Debra Elliott from St Wilfrid’s Hospice then briefly spoke about the Ashdown Radio Expo, taking place on 16 July at the East Sussex National. She gave an overview of what will be happening at the event and invited members to book a stand.
Paella by the pond
After the formalities were over, guests enjoyed a Spanish-inspired meal from Chamber member The Paella Fella, with a choice of vegetarian or chicken and chorizo paella. And they went down very well, with many guests going up for seconds.
Once again, members enjoyed their paella out on the deck, by the pond and continued chatting and networking. Some eagle-eyed guests even spotted a herd of deer in the vineyard beyond the pond!
